Vertical bone regeneration remains one of the most technically demanding disciplines in implant dentistry. The gap between what is possible and what most clinicians routinely achieve is not a question of technology, it is a question of surgical decision-making, anatomical precision, and technique mastery. This symposium closes that gap.
Over two full days at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami, Dr. Urban delivers the complete surgical framework that underpins predictable vertical and horizontal augmentation: from anatomical principles and flap design to membrane fixation, tension-free closure, and the long-term case evidence that validates each approach. Every lecture. Every video. Every case - ALL Dr. Urban.
✦Factors influencing the results in regeneration
✦Vertical and horizontal bone augmentation for the severely atrophic maxilla and mandible
✦Combining vertical ridge and sinus augmentation
✦Minimally invasive bone harvesting techniques
✦Soft tissue reconstruction of peri-implant papillae
✦Suborbicularis preparation, periosteoplasty, and papilla shift techniques
✦Flap advancement around the mental nerve
✦Design and use of digital membrane guides

Optional Hands-on WORKSHOP.
For clinicians who want to move beyond knowledge to application. The Pig Jaw Workshop on January 24, offers hands-on access to the Sausage Technique℠ taught by Dr. Urban himself. This is not a demonstration, it is a guided surgical practice session, limited in size, conducted under direct instruction.
The Workshop Covers
Vertical and Horizontal Augmentation Using the Sausage Technique℠
Vertical and horizontal augmentation represents the highest level of technical challenge in bone regeneration, demanding not only procedural competence but a precise command of surgical anatomy, flap behavior, and complication avoidance. In this half-day session, participants work directly on pig jaw specimens to practice the core elements of the technique under Dr. Urban's supervision.
Skills Practiced
✦Surgical anatomy of the floor of the mouth, the anatomical basis for safe, effective mandibular augmentation
✦Ridge augmentation surgical principles - approach, instrumentation, sequencing
✦Graft harvesting technique - minimally invasive harvest with reduced donor site morbidity
✦Membrane fixation, for both vertical augmentation cases and the Sausage Technique℠
✦Tension-free flap closure, step-by-step approach to reliable closure after vertical ridge augmentation
✦Neurovascular bundle protection, mental nerve identification and preservation across clinical scenarios
✦Soft tissue reconstruction following augmentation

About Dr. Istvan Urban
Dr. Urban earned both his DMD and MD degrees from Semmelweis University in Budapest in 1991 and 1996. He completed his oral surgery training at St. Istvan Hospital, followed by an internship in Periodontics at UCLA. After his Fellowship in Implant Dentistry at Loma Linda University, he became an assistant professor. Licensed in California, he runs a private practice in Budapest. In 2012, he earned his PhD in Periodontology from the University of Szeged, where he's now an honorary professor.
Dr. Urban is a board member of the Osteology Foundation, has published extensively on bone regeneration and soft tissue reconstruction, and teaches at the University of Michigan and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He authored Vertical and Horizontal Augmentation, available in 12 languages, and the follow-up VERTICAL 2: The NEXT LEVEL.
“The devil hides in the details"
"We have discovered that developing minimally invasive regenerative techniques leads to favourable long-term clinical outcomes. I have a passion for sharing those important surgical details, the science behind all the innovation and the long-term follow-up of the cases that puts all details to a credible prospective.
I would like to invite you to join our courses where we honestly discuss the realities of hard and soft tissue regeneration." - Istvan Urban D.M.D, M.D, Ph.D
